Why She Practices This Way
She grew up planning to be a surgeon. In nursing school in Russia, working in a cardio-surgical intensive care unit, she was on track for cardiac surgery and loved everything about it: the procedures, the science, the ability to help people.
Her role model was her grandmother, a nurse who treated the work as a calling and never said no to anyone who needed help. What nobody saw was that underneath all of it she was not taking care of herself. She did not sleep enough, she did not eat well, and she put everyone else first, always.
When the family immigrated to the United States, her grandmother came too. Forty days after they arrived, she died in the hospital, not from the conditions she had been living with, but from an overdose of diuretics.
She still wanted to be a doctor. She could not be part of that system. That is when she found naturopathic medicine: a discipline that looks at the whole person, addresses underlying causes instead of suppressing symptoms, and works with the body’s own ability to heal when it is given what it actually needs.
Years later she caught herself repeating her grandmother’s pattern, putting patients and family ahead of her own health until her body responded exactly the way she would have predicted. That is part of why the care here is unhurried, and why she asks the questions she does.
